Bradley Morris Dew, 21, of Mahoney Road, Oliver Springs, died early Sunday, June 7, 1992, in Jackson, Miss.
Mr. Dew, the son of Richard Allan and Jean Morris Dew of Mahoney Road, was born in Oak Ridge on Dec. 31, 1970. His father is a physician with Family Clinic of Oak Ridge.
An honor student at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mr. Dew had just completed his junior year. He had made the Dean's List each of the six semesters he completed at Millsaps, where he was studying pre-law and history. He had played football for three years as a member of the Millsaps College team and this year earned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference honors as a linebacker. He was also a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
A 1989 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, Mr. Dew had played guard and defensive end for the Oak Ridge High Wildcats football team. During his senior year, he earned All-State football honors and was the 1988-89 recipient of the Wildcat Academic Award in recognition of his academic and athletic achievements.
"In addition to being a great football player on a great football team," ORHS football coach Joe Gaddis said this morning, "he was one of the finest young men I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He was one of the hardest workers I've ever known. He lived in the weight room trying to make himself a better football player." Gaddis said.
Mr. Dew was a member of First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge and had been active in youth activities at the church. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite interests.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Dew is survived by his brother, Gregory Dew, a student in Seattle, Wash.; his paternal granparents, Philip and Lou Dew of Oliver Springs; his maternal grandparents, John and Nell Edwards of Collierville; and by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, with the Rev. Larry Dipboye officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, Highway 61 between Oliver Springs and Clinton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Dew's Oak Ridge High School and Millsaps College teammates and friends.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the College of Oak Ridge Founders Scholarship Trust, in care of the Oak Ridge Schools, P.O. Box 6588, Oak Ridge, Tenn. 37831
